Get the CSH URL of a Topic

The following function will return the context sensitive URL of a specific topic. If the skin is shown, the function will return a URL like:

http://example.com/index.htm#topic.htm

When the skin is not shown, the function will return the full URL of the topic. This script works for WebHelp and Browser Based AIR help.

Expand Drop-Downs by default

You can automatically expand drop-downs and expandspots when your output opens. To do this, you need to make a small change to your ehlpdhtm.js file.

Entries in the TOC normally don't wrap when the TOC becomes to small. To get the TOC entries to wrap, you need to modify the output file whthost.js.

If a title in the table of contents is very long, the TOC may automatically scroll horizontally.

To stop this, open whthost.js. Find the function syncInitand locate the line aIdList[aIdList.length-1].focus();. Now comment out the line like this:

Hide WebHelp Navigation Pane on Load

When you open the WebHelp, you sometimes want the TOC to be closed. To make sure the TOC is not visibile when the WebHelp opens, you need to modify your output.

Note: The same can be accomplished with a context sensitive help call using windows.  You can only accomplish this with fixing a JavaScript in your output and using a custom API. For the required modification, see Regular start page.

Always Show WebHelp Navigation Pane

When a user opens a topic in WebHelp directly, the navigation pane is not visible. In the properties of the SSL, you can choose to show a link when a topic is opened directly. With a simple script, you can force WebHelp to always show the navigation pane.

RoboHelp 9 and below

For RoboHelp 9 and below, you can add a script to the footer of your master page (template in RoboHelp 7) :

In WebHelp, the buttons for the TOC, index, search and glossary will only make the navigation pane visible: When the TOC is already opened, clicking the TOC button again will not hide the TOC. With the attached script you can create buttons that will show and hide the navigation pane based on the opened pane. For example: You click the TOC button to open the TOC. Click the TOC button again and the navigation pane will be hidden.

Remove Outline from WebHelp TOC

When you view the TOC of your WebHelp, you may notice a grey dotted border around items in your TOC. This dotted line is called the outline. In order to remove the outline, you need to modify your output files.

Change WebHelp Search Pane Highlighting

When you click a term in the glossary, the selected term is highlighted by a gray background. With some changes, you can style the highlight any way you like. To do this, you have to modify your output files. This means that you need to copy the modified files in your output every time you generate your project.
