IE10 patch for RoboHelp 8 installation

IE10 patch for RoboHelp 8 installation

Last month, Adobe released a fix for WebHelp. WebHelp didn't work on Internet Explorer 10. Adobe kindly provided the fix for RoboHelp 10 and RoboHelp 9. Because Adobe did not provide a patch for RoboHelp 9 'seed files', I created a custom patch for RoboHelp 9 installations.

Because some people requested a similar for RoboHelp 8, I've ported the solution  for RoboHelp 8 installations.

  • This patch is not sanctioned by Adobe. I tested this patch as well as I could, but I do not offer any warranty. Use this patch at your own risk.
  • This fix is only for RoboHelp 8! Do not install this fix on other versions of RoboHelp as this will break your WebHelp.

UPDATE: If you see empty pages on IE10 after applying the fix, you are experiencing an IE bug. Check the following message for a fix:

Download the patchDownload the RoboHelp 8 patch
  1. Download the zip archive and unzip it.
  2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the installation directory of RoboHelp. Normally this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 8.
  3. Go to the folder RoboHTML.
  4. Unzip the zip file to a temporary location.
  5. Copy the contents of the unzipped file (a folder WebHelp5Ext) into the folder RoboHTML.
  6. Click Yes to all to overwrite the existing files and folders.

Your RoboHelp installation is fixed. Generate your help to make it compatible with Internet Explorer 10.

Thanks so much for creating a custom patch for RH8. Thing is, it doesn't seem to work for me (on any version of IE, Chrome, etc.). When I first try to open one of the web help files,it displays in my browser, but when I then click the Show link to display the navigation panel, the file name in the tab starts flickering incessantly, as if it is repeatedly trying to retrieve the file - but unsuccessful. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, since we're not really interested in having to upgrade to RH10.

Can you share a copy of your output with me? There seems to be something wrong in the code, but I no longer have RH8 available. You can reply via the site's email notification.

What do you want to achieve? This patch fixes problems with IE10 when you install the fixes in your RoboHelp installation. From what you say, I suspect your colleague needs to install the patch and generate the help again.

William, thanks so much for this. The Search and Index are working fine in IE10. My problem is that the index pop-up menus are displaying a larger font than they did before and that, or something, prevents the popup menu from displaying all the topic names (but only for some index entries?).
What I would appreciate knowing is what file to modify to move that font size back down a bit. I'm assuming this is in one of the files in the RoboHTML folder, perhaps in the template_skin or template_skinpreview folders?
Or if I could change something in the RoboHelp UI, that would be great, but I don't see any explanation of where that might be in Robohelp's own help.
Thanks very much for any assistance,
John Dawson
PS I have no idea what homepage is for. I don't have a personal website. You talking about Facebook homepage??

IE10 makes WebHelp behave kind of quirky. I don't know all the issues, but it seems IE10 has some more strange issues than the official patch fixes :-(

As for the index font, you need to change whihost.js. The function IndexWriteClassStyle() writes the CSS for the index and you can change any styling there.

You can either change the file in your output or change the seed file. If you cange the seed file, always make a backup of the original first! The seed file is located in: %RH install dir%/RoboHTML\WebHelp5Ext\template_stock

- The home page field is for a link to your blog, twitter, linkedin, etc. You can use it so others can find out more about you. But you can leave it blank.
