If you ever tried to modify or create a Screen Layout, you will have noticed that the Screen Layout Editor sometimes behaves erratic. In short, the editor is not a complete WYSIWYG as it doesn’t support all HTML5 tags and CSS styling. In this article I will point to some limitations of the Screen Layout editor as well as listing a few best practices to help you develop Screen Layout.

Modifying or creating Multiscreen HTML5 layouts is no walk in the park. You will need substantial knowledge of HTML and CSS. And if you want to support the RoboHelp Screen Layout editor aside from different browsers and devices, you will find that the editor has quite a few limitations. (More about that in another post.) Luckily, the framework of the default layouts doesn't require manual tinkering. That just leaves the widgets.
After releasing the Favorites widget for WebHelp last week, now a new widget sees the light of day: Favorites widget for Multiscreen HTML5. With these widgets you allow users to mark pages in your (merged) help system as favorite pages. This allows them to quickly find their most used topics in your project. (This download contains two widgets: A button for setting favorites and a list of favorites in the help system.)

In this post I list the steps for adding a Google +1 button to both Multiscreen HTML5 and WebHelp outputs. This will allow users to share links to your help via Google Plus. The instructions for WebHelp will work on FlashHelp and Browser Based AIR Help as well.
Note: The Google +1 button will only work on help that is placed on a web server.
RoboHelp 10 introduces a powerful extension to scripting: events. An event is a specific action that is executed in the RoboHelp application. For example, saving a topic or opening a project are events. With scripting events, you can set scripts to run automatically whenever a certain event occurs.
